Local Taliban officials in Baraki Barak district of Logar province have banned futsal and volleyball gyms from operating after 9 p.m., sources say.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, October 19, that the Taliban cited their inability to ensure security at night as the reason for the decision.

According to the sources, the restriction has affected young people’s sporting activities and the income of gym owners.

The sources added that building each gym costs at least 7 million Afghanis, and the reduced operating hours have made it difficult for these facilities to cover their running expenses.

They said that despite residents repeatedly approaching local officials to request the reversal of the decision, no changes have been made so far.
