Local sources in Herat say that the Taliban have detained two civil activists for protesting the continued closure of girls’ schools in Afghanistan.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, March 28, that the two civil activists are named Qadoos Khatibi and Fayyaz Ghori, and were arrested on charges of writing two posts in support of girls’ education.
Qadoos Khatibi wrote on his Facebook page: “A request to everyone! Open the doors of schools and universities to the girls of Afghanistan.”
These arrests come as the Taliban had previously detained several citizens of the country for protesting against the group’s actions.
It has been five years since the doors of schools have been closed to girls above the sixth grade in Afghanistan, a situation that has raised widespread concerns both inside and outside the country.
