Mullah Mohammad Shirin, the Taliban governor of Kandahar, has met with Fares Haddad Zeros, the World Bank’s country manager for Afghanistan, and Richard Trenchard, an official from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
The Taliban’s media office in Kandahar said on Saturday, September 19, that Mullah Mohammad Shirin asked the World Bank during the meeting to implement infrastructure projects in the province.
According to the statement, the projects include raising the height of the Dahla Dam, supporting Mirwais Regional Hospital, building cold storage facilities and check dams, marketing agricultural products, and developing alternatives to illicit drug cultivation.
Fares Haddad Zeros said the World Bank has continued its activities in Afghanistan since the Taliban returned to power.
He added that the World Bank also provides funding for FAO activities.
According to him, the World Bank works with local officials to implement projects aimed at strengthening the private sector and creating employment opportunities for people.
