The Taliban have announced that 155 families, comprising 685 people, were forcibly returned to Afghanistan yesterday.
Hamdullah Fitrat, deputy spokesperson for the Taliban, said in a statement on Saturday, September 19, that 58 families, comprising 272 people, entered Afghanistan through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar.
According to him, 10 families, comprising 61 people, entered through the Spin Boldak crossing in Kandahar, while 72 families, comprising 310 people, entered the country through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz.
Another 15 families, comprising 42 people, returned to Afghanistan through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat.
This comes as the United Nations has repeatedly called for an end to the forced deportation of Afghan migrants, particularly women and unaccompanied children.
Meanwhile, UN experts have also called on developed countries to provide political and financial support to countries hosting Afghans, helping create opportunities for resettlement and safe pathways for Afghans at risk.
