Sources in Kandahar province say the Taliban’s Information and Culture Directorate has asked journalists not to publish reports about suicide.
Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Monday, September 14, that the Taliban’s Information and Culture Directorate in Kandahar told local journalists that publishing reports about suicide could be considered “against the regime” and urged them to refrain from publishing such news.
According to a source, the Taliban have also banned reporting on certain criminal cases in which economic problems are cited as a cause.
This comes as reports of an increase in suicide cases in some Afghan provinces have emerged in recent months.
Restrictions on reporting such incidents could make it more difficult to access information about their scale and contributing factors.
