In a distressing incident reported by local sources in Faryab, an 18-year-old girl has taken her own life by hanging in the village of “Dewana-Khana” in Almar district on Saturday, February 10.
The tragic event was confirmed by Esmatullah Muradi, the spokesperson for the Taliban in Faryab, who attributed the young girl’s motive for suicide to family violence. Muradi further disclosed that investigations into the circumstances surrounding her death are currently underway.
This heartbreaking incident underscores a concerning trend of rising suicide cases among Afghan women. Recently, another young girl ended her life shortly after being released from a Taliban prison in Balkh province.
According to sources from Hasht-e Subh Daily, the second suicide occurred on Thursday, February 1, in the third district of Mazar-i-Sharif city. The Taliban had detained the girl under the pretext of her not adhering to their hijab standards.
