The World Health Organization (WHO) says a malnutrition treatment center in Guzara district of Herat province provides services to more than 30 children each month.
The organization said on Thursday, October 22, that the center operates with WHO support and funding from the European Union.
According to WHO, the center treats children not only for severe malnutrition but also for other illnesses.
The facility is one of 31 severe acute malnutrition treatment centers operating in nine Afghan provinces with financial support from the European Union in 2026.
Meanwhile, the United Nations warned on October 15 that acute malnutrition in Afghanistan was increasing, with more than four million children projected to need treatment in 2027.
The number of Afghan provinces experiencing critical levels of malnutrition has also risen from seven to 10.
That figure is projected to reach 14 provinces in 2027.
