A collision between two passenger trains south of Cairo, the Egyptian capital, has left at least four people dead and 88 others injured.
Reuters reported on Sunday, November 8, that several carriages derailed following the incident. Rescue and recovery operations have begun at the scene.
According to Egypt’s state railway authority, a train travelling from Giza to Fayoum collided with the rear of another train travelling from Cairo to Aswan.
Following the accident, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi ordered an immediate investigation and called for those responsible for negligence or failure to perform their duties to be held accountable.
Egypt’s railway authority said rescue teams were clearing the wreckage of the damaged carriages to allow train services between Cairo and southern Egypt to resume.
