Local sources in Khost have reported the tragic demise of an elderly and influential tribal figure due to Taliban torture in the province.
The late tribal leader, identified as Haji Mirwolak, breathed his last on Tuesday, December 5, succumbing to the brutal treatment inflicted by the Taliban in the Ali Sher district of Khost.
According to reports, Haji Mirwolak had maintained a positive relationship with the previous government during its tenure and was a steadfast supporter of the former regime in the Ali Sher district.
Sources indicate that owing to this affiliation, the Taliban had targeted him with harassment, torture, and imprisonment on multiple occasions. Eventually, Mirwolak was summoned for interrogation at the district headquarters, and yesterday, his lifeless body was returned to his grieving family.
Regrettably, the detention, torture, and killing of both former military personnel and civilians by the Taliban are not unprecedented.
Not long ago, another influential tribal figure in the central part of Khost province fell victim to Taliban violence, meeting a tragic end as he was fatally shot by a member of the Taliban intelligence.
