US President Donald Trump has said that the United States may have gone too far in killing Iranian leaders, while again claiming that Tehran started the war.
Al Jazeera reported early Monday, November 2, that Trump made the remarks at an election rally in Iowa.
According to the report, Trump once again defended his decision to launch the war against Iran, repeating statements he had made at recent campaign rallies.
“I have protected our nation against the world’s largest state sponsor of terrorism,” he said.
Trump claimed that Iran had been “hitting us” ever since the 1979 revolution.
He also blamed Tehran for the 2000 attack on the USS Cole near the Yemeni port of Aden, which was claimed by al-Qaeda, as well as roadside bombings targeting US forces in countries such as Iraq.
Repeating his previous remarks, Trump claimed that the United States had destroyed Iran’s navy, air force, air defence radars and leadership. He then added: “We may have gone a little too far with the leaders. Now there’s nobody left for us to talk to.”
