Donald Trump, the US president, has announced the formation of a “Superintelligence Task Force” to coordinate the US government’s efforts in artificial intelligence and maintain the country’s position in the field.

Trump announced on Sunday, October 4, that the “Superintelligence Task Force” would be established following a recent agreement between the White House and some of the world’s largest technology companies.

He said: “The Superintelligence Task Force is tasked with coordinating the efforts of the federal government to ensure the continued leadership of the United States in superintelligence worldwide.”

According to Trump, this technology could bring about major changes and should be used to protect the interests of the American people and help improve their lives.

The task force is being established several days after the White House reached an agreement with major technology companies on voluntary measures to increase safety and oversight in the development of advanced artificial intelligence technologies.
