The U.S. ambassador to China says U.S. President Donald Trump warned Chinese President Xi Jinping against any support for Iran during their recent talks and received assurances that China would not do so.
Reuters reported on Saturday, September 26, that David Perdue, the U.S. ambassador to China, said Trump emphasized during his meeting with Xi Jinping that any direct or indirect Chinese support for Iran was “completely unacceptable.”
In an interview with the media, Perdue also said Washington received assurances from Beijing on Thursday that it would stop supporting Iran.
According to Perdue, the United States had previously raised concerns about Chinese assistance to Iran, and Chinese officials on Thursday assured Washington that they would not provide such support.
The remarks come amid reports that some Chinese-made air defense equipment has been transferred to Iran and that China may have helped Tehran circumvent U.S. oil sanctions.
