The United Nations, citing a UNICEF report, has said that Afghanistan has one of the lowest female literacy rates in the world.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, said on Tuesday, April 28, at a press briefing, citing UNICEF, that Afghanistan could lose around 20,000 female teachers and 5,400 health workers by 2030 due to Taliban restrictions.
Dujarric added that the Taliban’s ban on women’s education and employment is still ongoing.
UNICEF says these restrictions are already causing the country an annual economic loss of about $84 million.
According to a UNICEF report, one million girls have been deprived of education, and by 2030, more than two million may be denied access to schooling.
The United Nations has also referred to clashes between the Taliban and Pakistan, adding that a Pakistani attack on Kunar left seven people dead and 79 injured, including 13 women and 32 children.
According to the report, more than 100,000 people have been displaced as a result of these clashes so far.
