The UN Fact-Finding Mission has stated that there are “reasonable grounds” to conclude that the United States committed war crimes in two airstrikes on a school and a sports centre in Iran.
The mission said in a statement on Thursday, September 17, that one of the attacks was carried out on February 28 this year against a primary school in the city of Minab in southern Iran.
According to the mission’s findings, a Tomahawk missile struck a school in the attack.
In another attack in the city of Lamerd, precision-guided missiles scattered tungsten projectiles over a sports complex and a residential area.
According to the report, the two airstrikes, which together killed at least 178 civilians, including women and children, are at the centre of the findings.
The UN Fact-Finding Mission said that after examining the February 28 attacks, it found “reasonable grounds” to conclude that the United States had committed war crimes.
The attacks resulted in civilians being killed or wounded and damage to civilian sites.
