The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting women in Afghanistan on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
In a post on X on Sunday, March 8, the organization stated that on International Women’s Day, it honors the courage and resilience of Afghan women, including displaced and deported women who are rebuilding their lives despite numerous challenges.
The organization stated: “Today and every day, UNHCR is committed to standing alongside them to support their safety and future.”
This comes as women in Afghanistan have been stripped of their most fundamental rights, including the right to education and work, following the Taliban’s return to power and the group’s restrictive policies.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has consistently expressed concern for women who have been deported from neighboring countries, noting that they face restrictive laws, a lack of shelter, and limited access to healthcare and educational services.
