The United Nations Security Council will hold a meeting today to discuss Afghanistan’s political, humanitarian, security and human rights situation.
The meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 16, and Raba Fatima, head of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the UN secretary-general’s special representative for Afghanistan, is expected to brief Security Council members on the latest quarterly report on the situation in Afghanistan.
The political, security and economic situation in Afghanistan, as well as human rights conditions, particularly the situation of women and girls, will be among the main topics of the meeting.
Since returning to power in Afghanistan in August 2021, the Taliban have increasingly imposed strict restrictions on women and girls, including bans on education and employment.
