The United Nations Secretary-General, in a new report to the Security Council, has identified human rights violations and the lack of an inclusive government as factors threatening Afghanistan’s stability.
The UN said in the report on Tuesday, September 15, that growing economic pressures, declining capacity to provide basic services, increasing returns of migrants, and the continued activities of terrorist groups are other concerns for Afghanistan’s stability.
The report also highlighted growing and systematic restrictions on women and girls, as well as the centralized and exclusive nature of Afghanistan’s political system.
The report comes as Afghanistan’s political, economic, and humanitarian situation continues to face widespread challenges.
The United Nations has previously expressed concern about the consequences of restrictions on women and girls, the economic crisis, and the activities of terrorist groups in Afghanistan.
