The Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has confirmed that at least 10 civilians were killed and nine others injured in airstrikes in Kunar and Helmand provinces.
UNAMA said on Thursday, October 1, that most of the victims of the strikes were children and called on the parties involved to work toward reducing tensions and resolving disputes through dialogue.
The agency stressed the need to comply with international law and prevent further harm to civilians.
Pakistan launched airstrikes on parts of Kunar and Helmand provinces on Thursday morning.
The strikes came as clashes and airstrikes following rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan have increased concerns over civilian casualties.
Pakistani officials have previously said they targeted positions of armed groups inside Afghanistan, while Taliban officials have reported civilian casualties in the strikes.
