The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has announced the launch of a clean and sustainable energy project in Afghanistan aimed at strengthening essential services and promoting economic empowerment in local communities, particularly among women entrepreneurs.
In a report published on Tuesday, October 21, the agency stated that with financial support from Japan, the installation of solar panels has brought significant progress in the field of renewable energy across the country.
According to the report, 334 health centers now have access to reliable electricity, while 2,000 vulnerable families have benefited from solar energy kits that provide them with light, safety, and communication.
The UN agency emphasized that women entrepreneurs are playing a key role in driving this transformation.
According to UNDP, the use of solar energy also helps reduce harmful gas emissions and lower energy costs, allowing the saved resources to be reinvested in further development and public services.
The project is described as a model of sustainable development that enables both the protection of natural resources and economic progress in Afghanistan.
