Tajuddin Oyewali, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Afghanistan, has warned that the country’s water crisis is worsening.
On Saturday, October 24, he said climate change, rising demand, a lack of funding and infrastructure, over-extraction of water resources, and ineffective water management were among the factors contributing to the crisis.
Oyewali added that children and communities across Afghanistan were suffering the consequences of the water crisis.
He thanked member states, donors, and international financial institutions that participated in a UNICEF briefing on Afghanistan’s water crisis.
The water crisis has become one of Afghanistan’s major challenges in recent years, making access to water increasingly difficult for the population.
