The US Embassy in Riyadh has issued a renewed security alert, ordering non-essential staff to leave Saudi Arabia.
In a post on X early Wednesday, November 4, the embassy said attacks by Iran-backed Houthi forces on civilian airports and critical infrastructure sites could lead to a rapid escalation.
The embassy also said US government employees must obtain special authorization from the head of the US mission before using any airport in the kingdom. They have also been barred from travelling within 20 miles of the Yemeni border.
The US Embassy in Saudi Arabia and the US State Department have previously issued several warnings to American citizens about the risks of travelling to the kingdom.
Meanwhile, clashes between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia have intensified in recent months, raising concerns that the conflict could spread across the region.
