Kabul – In a letter to immigrant countries and human rights organizations, Zaman Ahmadi called for help from the immigrant countries.
In the letter, Zaman Ahmadi recalled his trial by the third Security District Court of First Instance, which had imprisoned him for writing a note that was never published on charges of “apostasy and insulting the sanctities of Islam.” Ahmadi was supposed to stay in prison for 20 years; however, the Supreme Court decreed in 2019 that he should be released. The decree was issued under pressure from civil society.
Currently, he has moved to a Central Asian country since the political changes, urging human rights defenders to arrange for his transfer to other countries.
“I have been directly and indirectly threatened since my release from prison,” Ahmadi said.
“You have no place among the believers,” he said, was threatened once in a phone call.
In the meantime, with the help of the Human Rights Defenders Committee and Amnesty International, Ahmadi is living in a Central Asian country with his wife and two daughters.
Since the recent changes in the country and the fact that his country of residence is neighboring Afghanistan, he is worried about the safety of his life and his family and they are in a state of despair.
On the other hand, Ahmadi has said that he has written to international institutions many times in this regard, but has been met with incuriosity and inattention.
“I am very upset and disturbed by the situation in Central Asian countries and I am confused as to which international institution I should turn to for help,” he added.
Therefore, he has called on human rights defenders to save his life, and so does his family.
