The Afghan Turkic Women’s Movement has condemned the detention of Mozhda Uzbek, an Uzbek-language poet and writer, in a protest statement and called for her release.
The movement said on Wednesday, October 7, that Mozhda Uzbek was detained “only for writing poetry.”
The Afghan Turkic Women’s Movement called on human rights organizations, women’s rights defenders, media outlets and the international community not to remain silent over her detention.
The statement said: “If we are working for the women of Afghanistan, we should work for all women and not make a woman’s ethnicity a criterion for defending her.”
The movement concluded its statement with the slogan “Free Mozhda” and called for an end to the silence over her detention.
