The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) says children account for 78 percent of casualties caused by unexploded ordnance in Afghanistan.
OCHA said on Wednesday, October 7, that the figure covers casualties among children reported from January through August 2026.
The agency added that $14.5 million is needed to address the threat posed by unexploded ordnance under Afghanistan’s 2026 Humanitarian Plan.
According to OCHA, only $4.3 million of the required amount has so far been secured.
OCHA warned that continued funding shortages will limit humanitarian efforts to reduce the risks posed by unexploded ordnance and assist affected people.
