The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has announced that severe flooding caused by heavy rainfall in Afghanistan has affected more than 5,700 families.
The organization reported on Thursday, April 9, that the recent floods have impacted 32 provinces across the country, with United Nations relief teams deployed on the ground to provide emergency assistance.
The IOM further stated that 500 families have so far received access to shelter and essential supplies, and that rescue and relief operations are ongoing.
This comes as the surge in rainfall and the occurrence of severe floods in Afghanistan have, in addition to causing casualties, left many families homeless and have further increased the need for immediate and large-scale humanitarian aid.
