A Sudanese human rights group has reported that more than 100 people were killed in a Sudanese army drone strike on a market in Nyala, a city in the southwestern part of the country.
The Associated Press reported early on Wednesday, October 28, that the human rights group Emergency Lawyers, which monitors violence in Sudan, announced the incident in a statement.
According to the report, the human rights group said the drone strike was carried out on Monday and left 113 people injured in addition to those killed.
The group said many of the dead and injured were women and children.
The statement said: “This massacre turned a civilian market into a scene of mass killing and widespread injuries. The attack threatens the lives of residents and adds to their suffering amid the ongoing war.”
Nyala, the capital of South Darfur, is under the control of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which has been fighting the Sudanese army since 2023.
Meanwhile, according to a United Nations report, the conflict has triggered the world’s largest humanitarian crisis, with around 34 million people, or two-thirds of the country’s population, in need of humanitarian assistance.
