The Afghanistan Free of Polio initiative has stressed the importance of vaccinating all children against polio and called for greater efforts to reach children who have not yet been vaccinated.
The initiative wrote on its X account on Sunday, October 25, that no child should suffer from a preventable disease such as polio.
Marking World Polio Day, the initiative said efforts must be intensified to ensure that vaccines reach the last remaining children who have yet to receive them.
Polio is a contagious viral disease that primarily affects children and can cause permanent paralysis. Vaccination is one of the main ways to prevent the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) previously reported that 42 cases of poliovirus type 1 had been recorded in Afghanistan in 2026.
