Findings by the Hasht-e Subh Daily show that cases of suicide, mysterious killings, and child abductions have risen across the country in recent days. According to the report, three people died by suicide in three provinces just yesterday. In the past week, at least nine people were mysteriously killed in Kabul, Khost, Herat, Badghis and Faryab, three of them yesterday. Over the past three days, seven children have also disappeared in Kunar, and the bodies of two abducted children have been found in Herat. This comes as 22 people were mysteriously killed in 10 provinces in the period from August 23 to 29 alone.
Despite the Taliban’s claims of providing security, citizens of the country have expressed concern over the rise in mysterious killings, armed robberies and suicides amid widespread poverty and unemployment. According to residents of the country, the Taliban have not only failed to provide security but have also deepened poverty and unemployment. Residents say this situation has led to more suicides, particularly among young people.
Three suicides in one day
According to reports published by the Hasht-e Subh Daily, suicides among young people and teenagers have risen in Khost province more than in any other province. Residents of Khost cite poverty, unemployment, and pressure from the Taliban as the main causes of these incidents, and say young people have reached the end of the road in life. The report’s findings show that six people died by suicide in this province between August 23 and September 22 alone.
In the most recent case, a young man from Khost province named Faizullah died by suicide because he did not have the money to travel illegally to Iran. According to sources, the young man took his own life yesterday in Mandozai district of Khost province.
Sources add that Faizullah’s friends had set out to travel illegally to Iran, but he could not go with them because he could not afford the journey, and he died by suicide after learning that they had left.
Meanwhile, a video was published on social media yesterday in which a young man is seen throwing himself under a tanker. According to sources, the incident occurred in the Company area of Kabul city.
Likewise, the body of a young man was found hanging in Farah province yesterday. According to sources, his name was Abdul Matin, and he was found hanged in the provincial center of Farah.
Rise in mysterious killings.
Sources say a young man was shot dead in Khost on Saturday night. According to sources, his name was Osman, and he was killed in Mani village in the provincial center of Khost. No further information is available on how Osman was killed.
Meanwhile, relatives of a young man named Shoaib say he was killed by drug dealers in the Chehel Sotoon area of Kabul. According to Shoaib’s relatives, the Taliban have failed to arrest smugglers and drug dealers, and for this reason people fall prey to thieves and drug dealers. They say the person who killed Shoaib has fled the area, and his father and brother have been detained by the Taliban.
Also, a man was killed last week in Shadijan village of Injil district in Herat. According to sources, the man was killed after he came to the area for recreation. Sources add that his body was set on fire after the killing.
In another killing, a dentist named Hessamuddin Akbari was shot dead by armed men in Qala-i-Naw city, the provincial center of Badghis. According to sources, he was killed on Sunday in the “Jar Khushk” area, part of District 1 of Qala-i-Naw city. In addition to his official job, he ran a dental clinic.
Likewise, last week a judge of the former government and an elderly man were killed in Kabul, a man in Kandahar, a child in Khost and a child in Faryab. The suspects in none of these incidents have been arrested.

According to sources, the two children, named Khalid and Idris, were brothers. Sources add that the two children had disappeared less than a week earlier. According to sources, their bodies were found after a search in Ghoryan district.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, sources in Kunar province reported the collective abduction of seven children in the province. According to sources, the children were abducted before noon on Saturday in the Nawabad area, part of Asadabad, the provincial center of Kunar. The Taliban have also confirmed the incident, saying the abducted children include four girls and three boys, aged between four and 10.
Earlier, the Secretary-General of the United Nations (UN), in a report to the UN Security Council (UNSC), said that from May 1 to July 31, the UN recorded 2,947 security-related incidents, which represents an 11 percent increase compared with the same period last year.
