Taliban Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi met with Alexey Overchuk, Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister, in Moscow to discuss expanding bilateral cooperation.
Hamdullah Fitrat, the Taliban Deputy Spokesperson, said in a statement released on Tuesday, October 6, that the two sides discussed expanding economic, trade, transit, and energy cooperation, alongside political understanding.
He also called for facilitating banking services and financial transactions between the Taliban and Russia.
According to the statement, Muttaqi praised Russia’s policy toward the Taliban, pointing to the “positive trend” in political relations between the two sides.
Meanwhile, Alexey Overchuk announced Russia’s readiness to expand economic cooperation with the Taliban, saying that favourable conditions had been created for launching practical cooperation between the two sides.
The Russian Deputy Prime Minister stressed the development of cooperation with the Taliban in transit, transportation, energy, and other sectors.
He expressed hope that more practical economic cooperation between the Taliban and Russia would take shape in the near future.
