Afghanistan’s National Resistance Front has condemned ISIS, describing the Taliban and the group as ideologically similar.
In a statement on Tuesday, October 6, the National Resistance Front described the Taliban and ISIS as “two sides of the same coin,” adding that both draw on the same ideological source.
The National Resistance Front said that both the Taliban and ISIS rely on extremism, excommunication, and violence, placing them at odds with Afghanistan’s religious, moral, and cultural values.
The statement said: “Like the Taliban, this excommunicating group engages in un-Islamic and inhumane conduct that runs counter to the moral and cultural values of this land.”
The front also described rumors and media campaigns targeting it as part of a “conspiracy” by the Taliban, ISIS, and their foreign supporters, saying that these campaigns aim to associate the National Resistance Front with extremism.
Meanwhile, the National Resistance Front of Afghanistan described periodic rivalries between the Taliban and ISIS as nothing more than operational-level battles over power-sharing and control, adding that strategically, the two groups pursue the same objectives.
