The Afghanistan Media Support Organization (AMSO) has warned that the situation of some Afghan journalists and media activists in Pakistan and Iran is critical, as they continue to await humanitarian visas to Brazil.

The organization said in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, that Afghan journalists have left their country due to serious security threats and now face the risk of forced deportation in host countries.

According to the statement, prolonged administrative delays and the lack of a clear timeline for visa issuance have further exacerbated the physical and mental strain on these journalists.

AMSO urged the Brazilian government and its diplomatic missions in host countries to review Afghan journalists’ humanitarian visa applications immediately and transparently, providing clear information and timelines regarding the visa process.

The organization also called on international media and human rights institutions to strengthen and accelerate efforts to ensure the security and rapid relocation of these journalists.

AMSO emphasized that freedom of expression, access to information, and journalists’ safety are shared global values, and no journalist or media worker should face uncertainty or threats for performing their professional duties.
