Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, has announced that Doha’s mediation efforts between the United States and Iran to reach an agreement and prevent the regional situation from spiralling out of control are continuing.
Reuters reported on Saturday, November 7, that Al Thani, expressing confidence that an agreement could be reached, said Washington’s willingness to resolve its differences with Tehran had not changed, even after the US midterm elections.
Referring to progress in the negotiations, the Qatari prime minister said: “We cannot wait until we achieve a perfect agreement. We hope to reach a good agreement.”
This comes as regional countries are concerned that the United States may resume attacks on Iran following its midterm elections.
Iran has also warned that, in the event of another attack, it would target US and Israeli positions in neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, Tehran has proposed a seven-day plan since September to resolve the tensions, but US President Donald Trump has not yet agreed to it.
The plan includes the lifting of the US blockade of Iranian ports, the release of Iran’s frozen assets, and Washington’s agreement to establish an Iran-backed passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
