Andy Burnham, widely known as the “King of the North,” is set to be appointed as the United Kingdom’s new prime minister today.
Reuters reported on Monday, July 20, that Burnham will become Britain’s seventh prime minister in the past decade.
According to the report, he will be tasked with forming a new government and focusing on the issues most important to the public.
Burnham is a member of the Labour Party and a political ally of former Prime Minister Keir Starmer, who stepped down several weeks ago.
Starmer resigned under pressure from members of his own party over what they described as his failure to address Britain’s economic and political challenges.
