Local sources say that the Taliban are forcing people in Helmand Province to buy tickets for the Red Crescent Society under the group’s control. The practice is being carried out even at checkpoints, in homes, offices and workplaces.

Sources told the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Wednesday, October 28, that despite the end of the week-long ticket sales campaign for the Red Crescent, the tickets are still being offered to people in Helmand.

According to the sources, Taliban officials have urged people at various meetings to purchase Red Crescent tickets to help the group meet its targets.

The sources added that this year, the Taliban also urged people in other provinces of Afghanistan to buy tickets for the Red Crescent Society under their control and provide financial assistance to the organisation.

Meanwhile, some citizens of the country say they are unwilling to provide financial support to the Red Crescent Society under Taliban control because of widespread corruption in the organisation’s aid distribution process.
