Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, Pakistan’s representative to the United Nations (UN), has said that it is concerning that elements within the Taliban cooperate with terrorist groups.
Speaking at a UN Security Council meeting on Monday, June 15, Iftikhar expressed support for the continuation of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA).
Pakistan’s representative said that Islamabad has consistently emphasized that one of Afghanistan’s most serious challenges is the growing threat of terrorism originating from the country.
He identified Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), Majeed Brigade, Islamic State Khorasan Province (ISKP), al-Qaeda, and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) as terrorist groups that operate inside Afghanistan with impunity.
Pakistan has repeatedly accused the Taliban of supporting terrorist groups, including the TTP, allegations that the Taliban have consistently denied.
However, under the banner of combating “terrorism,” Pakistan has repeatedly carried out airstrikes in Kabul and other provinces of Afghanistan.
