Sources in Badakhshan say that Taliban fighters have been stationed in Nusay district of this province and have ordered hundreds of individuals affiliated with the group, who do not hold positions within the Taliban regime’s structure, to hand over their weapons.
Sources confirmed in a conversation with the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Tuesday, July 21, that around 300 Taliban fighters have taken positions in Nusay district and have sent written notices to nearly 350 people, instructing them to surrender their weapons.
The notice warned that if individuals refuse to hand over their weapons, Taliban fighters will use military force to collect them.
It is said that the people included on this list are those who, following the Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan, were not recruited into the group’s administrative or military structure but still possess weapons.
This comes as Taliban fighters had previously also begun the process of collecting weapons from residents and mine workers in the village of Abkanda in Badakhshan province.
