Local sources in Farah Province say the bodies of 12 young Afghan migrants have been found after they were shot by Iranian border guards near the border last night.
Sources reported on Monday, December 1, that the men were from Shindand District in Herat and were targeted by Iranian border forces while attempting to cross into the country through an illegal route.
According to the sources, the bodies of 12 members of the group have been recovered, and the fate of the remaining individuals from the 35-member group remains unknown.
Local sources add that the victims were not only from Herat; individuals from other provinces of the country were also among them.
This incident occurred amid a surge in recent years of reports documenting Iranian border guards firing on Afghan migrants.
