Local sources in Paktika have reported that a young man was killed during his sister’s wedding ceremony in the province.
Sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily on Saturday, October 3, that the incident occurred the previous evening during a wedding ceremony in Metakhel village, Yahya Khel district, Paktika.
According to the sources, the groom’s brother fired shots into the air in celebration during the wedding ceremony. A bullet struck the bride’s brother, killing him.
Celebratory gunfire is still practiced at some weddings and celebrations in parts of Afghanistan and has, in some cases, resulted in deaths and injuries.
The incident comes a week after a bride was also killed by gunfire during her wedding ceremony in Dand district of Kandahar province.
