The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has reported the forced rerouting of 115 commercial vessels in regional waters.
CENTCOM wrote on X on Wednesday night, September 23, that the vessels were forced to change course as part of a naval blockade of Iran.
The U.S. military said the rerouting of commercial vessels linked to Iran was aimed at enforcing the naval blockade.
The U.S. military launched the blockade of Iran in response to Tehran’s closure of the Strait of Hormuz during the U.S.-Israeli war with Iran, and the blockade remains in place.
The closure of the Strait of Hormuz, along with restrictions imposed under the blockade on Iran’s oil exports, has affected global oil prices.
