China has announced the launch of a new coast guard patrol east of Taiwan, stressing that it will strengthen such patrols in what it calls waters under its jurisdiction.
Reuters reported on Saturday, July 4, that the new Chinese coast guard patrol has been condemned by Taiwan.
According to the report, Taiwan’s government condemned the new patrol, saying it was an “illegal expansion of power in violation of international law and a disruption of regional stability”.
The report adds that this is the second time in less than a month that China has deployed coast guard vessels to waters off Taiwan’s east coast.
The Chinese government considers Taiwan part of its territory and maintains a strong stance on the issue.
Beijing has repeatedly warned that it does not rule out the use of force to achieve reunification with Taiwan, if necessary.
