Sources in Kabul say that several Shia religious schools have granted their female students a 10-day holiday due to concerns over Taliban arrests of girls.
On Wednesday, June 10, sources confirmed to the Hasht-e Subh Daily that some female students in religious schools were sent on leave before noon.
According to the sources, school officials decided out of fear that the Taliban might detain the girls.
This comes as the Taliban, since the beginning of the week on Saturday, have been arresting and imprisoning women and girls in Herat on charges of not wearing the burqa.
Yesterday, dozens of women and men in the Jebrail area of Herat staged a protest against this action by the Taliban, which was violently suppressed by Taliban fighters.
As a result of Taliban gunfire on the protesters, two people were killed, and around 30 others were injured.
