With financial support from the World Bank, work has begun on the implementation of eight development projects worth $800,000 in Mehtarlam, the capital of Laghman province.
The Taliban-controlled Bakhtar News Agency reported on Monday, September 21, that the projects include the construction and rehabilitation of rural roads, drainage channels, sidewalks, and several other essential facilities.
The Taliban have also said that work on these projects will be completed within eight months.
The projects are being implemented to improve urban infrastructure and address the basic needs of Mehtarlam residents.
This comes as a shortage of financial resources and declining economic opportunities remain among the major challenges to development in Afghanistan, while the implementation of infrastructure projects continues to depend on support from international organizations.
