Kabul – A number of employees of the Ministry of Urban Development and Lands (MUDL) have demanded the payment of their salaries by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan during a protest rally.
“Our salaries have been suspended since August and we are in uncertain fate,” said protestors of MUDL today Saturday, December 18.
The employees chanted slogans such as “Oppression and disregard for workers’ salaries are a great sin, and please do not take the food of the children of engineers and specialists from their tables,” calling on the Taliban to pay their salaries.
“We have asked our rights from the Taliban several times, however, so far they have not given us satisfactory responses,” said protestors.
The Ministry of Urban Development and Land is one of the keys and non-political ministries of the country and its door should not be closed to engineers, they stressed.
In the meantime, they have warned that if their rights are not paid, a number of employees of this ministry may migrate.
Moreover, the staff also called on the United Nations and the international community not to leave the Afghan people alone and to help in the current economic crisis.
They have also called on the US to release Afghanistan’s assets.
Meanwhile, the level of poverty and unemployment among the people has intensified since the takeover, and human rights groups have also expressed concern about the current situation, warning that a humanitarian catastrophe could occur if the current crisis is not solved.
