Russian foreign minister Sergey Lavrov said at the eighth “Moscow Format” meeting that his country does not accept a NATO military presence in Afghanistan or neighboring countries.
Lavrov said on Monday, October 5, that a NATO military presence in Afghanistan and the region could lead to instability and increased conflict.
The Russian foreign minister emphasized that Moscow would continue providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan.
Representatives and officials from Russia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan are attending the meeting.
The eighth “Moscow Format” meeting on Afghanistan began in Moscow on Monday, October 5, with the participation of special representatives and officials from regional countries.
The meeting is focused on the situation in Afghanistan and developments surrounding the country, particularly recent tensions between the Taliban and Pakistan.
