The Taliban burned more than 500 musical instruments in the provinces of Parwan and Laghman, citing their prohibition under Islamic law.
The Taliban’s Directorate of Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Parwan announced on Wednesday, February 18, that approximately 500 musical instruments had been collected from the provincial center and its districts and subsequently burned.
According to the Taliban, these instruments had been collected over the past year.
Taliban officials in Parwan claimed that the musical instruments were leading people astray.
Meanwhile, the Morality Police of the Ministry for the Propagation of Virtue and Prevention of Vice in Laghman province also reported burning 100 musical instruments in that province.
Since regaining control of Afghanistan, the Taliban have banned music and have burned hundreds of musical instruments across various provinces.
