The European Union delegation in Afghanistan has announced that it will allocate €10 million to the Aga Khan Foundation to implement a €13.5 million programme in Afghanistan.
The EU said in a statement on Wednesday, September 2, that the remaining €3.5 million will be provided by the Aga Khan Foundation.
According to the statement, the programme will strengthen the resilience and sustainable reintegration of displaced populations while promoting economic growth in 10 provinces.
The EU said that over three years, the programme will directly benefit 83,197 people and indirectly benefit 582,379 others, including young people, women, vulnerable host communities, returnees, and internally displaced people.
The EU delegation added that the programme will integrate climate resilience and agricultural livelihoods, economic growth and employment, and community resilience and sustainable reintegration.
This comes as the United Nations has recently warned of a severe funding shortage for assisting returnees and populations affected by natural disasters.
