Naseer Ahmad Faiq, Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, strongly condemned the entry of Taliban fighters into the residence of Hamid Karzai, the former president of Afghanistan, and their prevention of people and tribal elders from meeting with him.
Faiq wrote on X on Thursday, September 24, that Afghanistan cannot be governed through force, threats, intimidation, and silencing different voices, adding that such an approach would bring neither legitimacy nor stability.
The Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations described Hamid Karzai as a well-known national and political figure in the country, saying that he has emphasized peace, coexistence, dialogue and the protection of national interests over the years.
Faiq added that Karzai, like every other citizen of Afghanistan, has the right to live in the country with dignity and security, meet with people and freely express his views.
He also said that the people of Afghanistan have the right to meet and communicate with one another freely and to express their views about the fate and future of their country.
The Chargé d’Affaires of Afghanistan’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations concluded by stressing that he sees tolerance and forbearance, national dialogue, respect for the rights and dignity of citizens, and a genuine and inclusive political process as the way out of the country’s current crisis.
