The Freedom Front said in a statement that its forces have advanced at several points in Zebak district after breaking through the Taliban’s first line of defence.
The front said early Monday, August 17, on X that Taliban fighters had been pushed back at several points in Zebak and that their positions had been captured by Freedom Front forces.
According to the statement, six Taliban fighters were killed and eight others were injured in the clashes.
The Freedom Front said fighting between its forces and Taliban fighters is still ongoing. Despite the deployment of fresh Taliban fighters from Faizabad, the capital of Badakhshan, the group has been unable to stop the advance of Freedom Front forces.
This comes as Badakhshan has witnessed significant fighting and unrest in recent weeks, with armed resistance against the Taliban continuing on several fronts.
