A German association honored Afghan women entrepreneurs in the country at a special ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of its activities.
The association held the ceremony on Friday, September 11, at a hall in Frankfurt, awarding prizes to successful women entrepreneurs in the presence of cultural figures, entrepreneurs, politicians, and journalists.
Seven successful Afghan women entrepreneurs took part in the event. Over the past five years, they have established various companies and organizations in Germany.
Fakhriya Manzel, founder of the non-profit organization “BIN,” won the first prize. “Jawan Aya” Publishing, founded by three Afghan women, received an honorary prize of €2,000.
Wania Lamer, Waslat Hasrat Nezami, and Ema Tokhi are the three Afghan women who founded the publishing house. They work to preserve and keep alive the languages spoken in Afghanistan.
The event also included discussions on the integration of Afghan women into Germany’s labor market, existing barriers, and the role of innovation and entrepreneurship in creating employment opportunities for women.
The event comes as women in Afghanistan have been barred from education, higher education, employment, and participation in public life since the Taliban returned to power.
