German authorities report that 83 Afghan asylum seekers deemed “criminals” were returned to their country in 2025.
Bild newspaper reported on Sunday, January 4, that in the latest case, a “criminal” asylum seeker was sent back to Afghanistan on Friday.
According to Germany’s Foreigners Registration Center, by the end of November 2025, around 11,888 Afghan asylum seekers had been registered as required to leave the country.
Alexander Dobrindt, Germany’s Interior Minister, told Bild: “Returning refugees must be possible, even to Afghanistan. Our society has essential interests in ensuring that asylum seekers who commit crimes here leave our country. We implement this strictly.”
The latest individual returned was accused of drug trafficking and had served part of their prison sentence.
